The Carolina BrewMasters are proud to announce the 26th annual US Open homebrewing competition will be held on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte, NC.
In addition to being an AHA and BJCP sanctioned event, the US Open is also in the 2016 Southeastern Homebrewers Association. Results of this competition will count toward the prestigious SHA awards.
Payment will be accepted by PayPal to keep our process simple and records all in the same place.
Once again, this competition will include the selection of the 2016 Gambrinus Cup, whose winner will have their beer brewed by Foothills Brewing Company and served at the Carolina Renaissance Festival in October 2016. This year's Gambrinus Cup style is BJCP style Strong Bitter 11C.
In addition, the Charlotte US Open will also host the Annual Rein Stein Homebrew Competition. The winning beer from this competition will be brewed in OMB's brewhouse in south Charlotte, NC and sold commercially in OMB's tap room on premises. This year's style will be 2015 BJCP guidelines style 7C Amber Kellerbier. All entries in that category will be considered for the Rein Stein.
No recipes needed for entries. The only two bottles that there will need to be a recipe for will be the Gambrinus Cup and Rein Stein winners.
Registration will be open from Friday April 1st until Friday May 6th, 2016. Entries may be shipped to Olde Mecklenburg Brewery or dropped off at one of the many pickup locations throughout North and South Carolina.
Entries MUST be dropped off and paid for by close of business Friday May 6th. If you do not pay for your entry(s), they will not be judged.
This is an amateur homebrewing competition, as such, your homebrew cannot have been brewed on equipment used to brew beverages for any commercial purpose, whether for commercial research, production or any other purpose, including equipment at brew-on-premises establishments.
You may pay for your entries via PayPal when you are finished registering. Unpaid entries will not be judged and bottles will not be returned.
